Prof. Opoku-Agyemang Challenges NPP’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment
The running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has raised concerns about the sincerity of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding its promises to women, labeling their commitments as attempts to mislead.
During a visit to the Mallam Market in Accra as part of her campaign tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang questioned the NPP’s manifesto promise to establish a Women’s Empowerment Bank, comparing it to the NDC’s already proposed Women’s Development Bank. She argued that the NPP, having been in power, should have already implemented such initiatives if they were serious about supporting women.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang suggested that the NPP and its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, lack a clear understanding of their promises, describing their plans as confusing and insincere. She urged market women to recognize which party genuinely cares about their welfare and can effectively implement its manifesto promises.
Highlighting the NDC’s commitment to women’s development, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the proposed Women’s Development Bank is a carefully planned initiative aligned with the NDC’s 24-Hour Economy policy. This policy aims to improve the lives of women, particularly those involved in small-scale enterprises.
She assured the traders of the NDC’s dedication to inclusive national development, promising equitable allocation of resources and a focus on job creation for the youth. As part of her tour, she visited several markets in Accra, including Odorkor, Lapaz, Achimota, and Dome, pledging to upgrade these markets to provide a better environment for both traders and customers.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang concluded by asserting that the NDC has a proven track record of delivering on its promises, particularly in the area of market infrastructure, and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the well-being of all Ghanaians.
