Ivan Toney is on the verge of joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli in a deal that could have repercussions for Chelsea’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen.

It was reported early on deadline day that Napoli striker Osimhen was heading to Al-Ahli after the two clubs agreed a fee, seemingly ending Chelsea’s hopes of luring the Nigerian to Stamford Bridge.

However, news then emerged that Al-Ahli had also agreed a fee of £40million with Brentford for Toney.

The Middle East club are only likely to sign one of the two players, leading to a confusing situation although it is worth bearing in mind the deadline for Saudi clubs is October 6.

One potential solution is Chelsea snaring Osimhen, paving the way for England international Toney to complete his switch to Al-Ahli. It has been reported Osimhen is not completely sold on leaving Europe so that could suit all parties.

Brentford have been looking to offload Toney all summer with the player out of contract at the end of the season.

He has not played in either of the club’s opening two Premier League games and was not in the squad for tomorrow’s clash with Southampton.

Toney was hoping to secure a move to one of the Premier League’s top six but that never materialised and it appears he has opted instead for a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
