President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate recall of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner itto the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency.

The directive follows the conduct of the NDC parliamentary primaries on Saturday, February 7, 2026, held as part of the party’s preparations toward the 2028 general elections. Five aspirants contested the race, which ended in a closely fought outcome.

Provisional results declared after the polls showed Baba Jamal emerging winner with 431 votes, narrowly defeating Hajia Amina Adam, who polled 399 votes. Mohammed Ramne placed third with 88 votes, while Dr. Yakubu Azimdow secured 45 votes. Najib Sani trailed with one vote.

Despite the conclusion of the voting process, the primaries were overshadowed by allegations of vote-buying and voter inducement involving some of the contestants. Reports of alleged cash handouts circulated widely on social media shortly after voting, triggering public debate and demands for accountability within the party.

Although allegations were levelled against multiple aspirants, the Presidency noted that Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer among the candidates at the time of the primaries, having been appointed Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria.

In a directive to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, President Mahama stressed the importance of upholding the highest standards of conduct expected of public officers and safeguarding the integrity of public office.

The President also acknowledged a public statement by the General Secretary of the NDC, confirming that the party has initiated internal investigations into the alleged irregularities surrounding the primaries.

According to the Presidency, the recall is without prejudice to the ongoing internal party processes and is intended to avoid any perception of impropriety or conflict with the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.

The recall takes immediate effect, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs has been directed to take all necessary administrative and diplomatic steps to ensure compliance.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP).
