
Nineteen persons, including three military personnel, have been arrested by the Police in Tamale as part of efforts to fight crime across the country by the IGP’s Special Operations Team.⁵
The crimes targeted include robbery, kidnapping, drug peddling, sexual offences, attacks on mobile money vendors, and other crime-related activities.
Those arrested in the recent operation are
Ikram Abdul Razak, Farouk Nahim, Issah Mohammed, Abdulai Fuseini, Umaru Zulkarina, Mohammed Maraw and Shaibu Ibrahim for the possession for the possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at the Aboabo market.
At the Kamina Barracks Enclave, the following suspects were arrested
Simi Michael, Abdul Lasa,
Iddi Suraya, Franklina Owusu, Albert Anafo, Sadiq Alhassan, and Ziblina Muntala for the possession of various quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and quantities of Koffex cough syrup:
Alhassan Abdul Shakun was arrested for possession of Royal 225.
Hawa Yakubu was also arrested for the possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at the water works area.
Additionally, three (3) individuals who identified themselves as military personnel were arrested at the same location for possession and use of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Following formal verification of their identities by the team, which confirmed that they were military personnel, arrangements were made for their collection by the regional Military Police Command for further actions to be taken.
All other suspects were detained at the Sakasaka Police Station pending further investigations. All exhibits were secured and retained for forensic examination and evidential purposes.
Meanwhile, the IGP’S Special Operations Team led by DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil paid a courtesy visit to Tamale Technical University (TaTU)
During the visit, DSP Jalil called for joint efforts between the Police Service and educational institutions and also reiterated their commitment to deal with identified security challenges..
On his part, the vice Chancellor of Tamale Technical University.(TaTU) Professor Bashiru Immoro Iden Saed commended the team for their hard work within the Metropolis.
